Arkansas Boys State & Arkansas Girls State

Arkansas Boys State and Arkansas Girls State are week-long, immersive leadership and citizenship programs that give high school juniors the opportunity to experience government in action. Sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, these programs bring together students from across the state to build a model government from the ground up.

Throughout the week, participants form political parties, campaign for elected offices, draft and debate legislation, and work together to address real-world issues. In addition to the government simulation, students attend leadership workshops, hear from state leaders, and develop skills in public speaking, teamwork, and critical thinking.

These programs are highly respected and recognized nationwide. Many past participants credit Boys State and Girls State as transformative experiences that helped shape their future careers and civic involvement. Students who attend are also eligible for scholarships and recognition opportunities.

Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Program

The Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Program provides students with hands-on opportunities to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and give back to their community. Open to youth in grades K–12, 4-H focuses on helping students learn by doing through projects, workshops, and service activities. Participants explore areas such as public speaking, teamwork, decision-making, and community involvement while also pursuing personal interests ranging from agriculture and science to the arts and technology.

Through leadership training and real-world experiences, students in 4-H gain valuable skills that prepare them for success in school, careers, and life. The program also offers opportunities to attend camps, competitions, and leadership conferences at the county, state, and national levels.
